Artificial insemination is a safe, effective method of achieving pregnancy. Frozen semen has been used over several decades, with results as good as coital pregnancy, in terms of safety for mother and child.

Frozen whole or washed semen may be used for a number of other Assisted Reproductive Techniques such as:
- In vitro fertilization (IVF)
- Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT)
- Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
- Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT)
- Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
Our anonymous donors are chosen from college, university, and graduate school students and alumni. Due to ZyGen's strict medical standards, less than ten percent of the applicants that are screened, are accepted as donors.
All anonymous donors are initially and periodically tested for sexually transmitted diseases as well as other illnesses, and undergo physical examination and review of family history, to ensure safety for the recipient and offspring. These tests meet or exceed all the required testing by various regulatory and professional organizations and are listed as follows:
- Initial Testing: Comprehensive questionnaire and complete physical examination, complete semen analysis, post-freeze semen count, chemistry panel, CBC, blood type & Rh, HIV 1-2 Ab., HBsAg. -HBcAb. -HCVAb (hepatitis testing), RPR (syphilis), HTLV1 (lymphoid malignancy), semen culture for gonorrhea and other bacteria, chlamydia, urinalysis and urine culture, if needed.
- Semen count pre- and post-freeze (quality control) for each donation.
- Weekly testing: Semen culture for gonorrhea.
- Quarterly testing: HIV1-2 Ab., RPR, HBsAg., HBcAb., HCVAb., ALT (liver enzyme) HTLV1, semen culture for gonorrhea, chlamydia.
- Annually: Health review and physical examination if required, high risk questionnaire to be completed.
